New Jersey Staff Writer Discusses Choosing a Gap Year
I just read a great article on our gap year news feed about the pro's and con's of a gap year by Leslie Brody from the Hackensack, New Jersey Record. In the article
A gap year before college: Is it a good idea? Brody lists the pro's as allowing you to become more focused about your future, gaining maturity, having more time to save for tuition and more time to reconnect with family after juggling high pressured schedules during high school.
She lists the con's as being very expensive- if you go somewhere exotic or go on a costly volunteer project, delays the day when you actually become a self supporting adult, can make you lose the drive to return to a school environment and that you could be out of sync with friends who went straight to college after high school.
She stresses the importance of having productive goals for your gap year as well as a good plan to make it as worthwhile an experience as possible.
Good job Leslie for showing your readers that a gap year is a possibility but should be considered carefully.
